Following on from the oriignal achievement of Beacon home status in 2012, Southmead has been reaccredited at Beacon level in the Gold Standards Framework.  The Gold Standard (GSF) is nationally recognised as the system for defining what people should experience as they live out the last phases of their lives.

Sun Awning Improves Garden Amenity

Sun Awning Improves Garden Amenity

Summer 2014 saw the addition of a fully automatic awning to the main seating area in the Southmead garden.  This is a major sun trap - nearly always sheltered from the wind, the sun can be a bit too much to bear, and the awning is the perfect haven. Also protecting against rain showers, it extends the opportunity and time for people who like to be outside in all weathers!  The awning not only retracts if the wind gets too feisty, but it automatically extends and retracts in concert with a certain level of direct sunlight.  The only hazard is to our window cleaner, who has to take manual control to get at the windows of room 7 above it...
